You don't know this is happening if in the truck with the hood closed. At this point I had to zip tie it into the run retracted position. This solenoid has 3 wires: ground, pull, and hold. It has 2 coils inside of it, a strong and fast "pull" coil that can only be used momentarily or it will overheat, and a "hold" coil which is rated for continuous engagement without overheating. That is just a little FYI on how it works. A starter solenoid is much the same, depending upon the maker. Personally, I like the idea of removing it completely. Would love to get an air starter and just throw all of the electrical and batteries away if lights were not required for street use. I've never trusted the solenoid since I had to replace it.

The leg that goes to the kill pushbutton has volts on it and I don't know if that is correct. I would think that it would complete a ground circuit to kill engine. Once the start cycle is complete a lower voltage magnet holds the shaft up so fuel continues to flow. When the power to the second magnet is lost the solenoid shaft drops and the engine dies due to fuel starvation. My solenoid magnets decided not to work at 19 years of age. I replaced the solenoid and all is well, once the proper mounting and shaft adjustments were made to the new solenoid. My wiring was done by use of a photo of the existing solenoid connections before replacement and I do not remember noticing a 5 wire relay. The problem still existed. I bought a cheepo ignition switch and wired it in parallel with the existing switch. Problem solved. Some one told me that CC didn't use heavy enough wiring back to the engine. I found a spare wire in the engine compartment that went to the front run compartment and wired it into the original switch and into the rear relay.
